Psychoanalytic Schools
It is often the case that besides Classical Psychoanalysis there is a number of recognized “Psychoanalytic Schools” as they are used to be called. All Psychoanalytic Schools are based on one or more of the main foundations of Sigmund Freud on clinical, technical or theoretical issues. None of them deals in a systematic way with Freudian metapsychology which according to classical psychoanalysts is the most difficult but also the most important part of Freud’s work.
The main psychoanalytic schools today are the following:
- ‘Psychoanalysis of the EGO’
- ‘Psychoanalysis of the SELF’
- ‘Object Relations Psychoanalysis’
- ‘The Independent School of Psychoanalysis’
- ‘The British School of Psychoanalysis’
- ‘Neuro-Psychoanalysis’
- ‘Cognitive Psychoanalysis’
- ‘Lacanian Psychoanalysis’
- ‘Group Psychoanalysis’
- ‘Interpersonal Psychoanalysis’
New Psychoanalytic Schools arise in response to social needs created by human progress.
