Psychoanalysis could never be a popular approach in resolving human problems. Indeed, it speaks of the most unpleasant side of human nature. Therefore, a psychoanalyst is expected not to be surprised when he/she is accused, subordinated or ridiculed as the result of unpleasant truths that he/she has discovered that are bound to bring forward the patient's anxiety feelings. On other occasions we would expect that he will be idealized and he will enjoy supreme admiration whenever his help becomes an absolute necessity for his patients or whenever his patients find it difficult to express their hostility towards him/her.
Ambivalence towards psychoanalysis was present during Freud's era, it exists nowadays and no doubt it will always be present in one way or another. And yet, despite the existing ambivalence towards Psychoanalysis it will never cease to
be the oasis for understanding and facing up the human condition.
